Where your stuff actually goes

Not everything on the truck is trash. Some of it is a couch that is still good, a dresser somebody could use, a fridge that runs fine. If it has life left in it, we try to get it somewhere it gets used instead of buried. Here is how that works, and what it does to your price.

How we sort it

Every job comes down to three piles

We sort as we load, not after. That is the whole trick. Once a truck is packed there is no going back through it, so the sorting happens in your driveway while you are standing there.

The keep pile
Anything you are not sure about does not go on the truck. You point at it, we set it aside, and it stays put. Nothing leaves until you say so, and if you change your mind halfway through the job that is fine too.

The good pile
Furniture, appliances, tools, and household goods that still work. These get loaded separate and dropped at thrift stores, reuse shops, and local charities that take them. No promises on any single item, but we look before we throw.

The haul pile
Broken, soaked, moldy, or picked over. That is what the landfill and the transfer station are for. Metal gets pulled out and scrapped, and appliances go to the spots that handle the refrigerant right.

If it is worth something, it comes off your price

We are not doing this out of the goodness of our hearts. If your load has real resale value, we would rather move it than bury it, and we will take that off the quote. Sometimes it is fifty bucks. Sometimes on a full estate it is a lot more. Sometimes it is nothing, because a twenty-year-old sectional is worth zero no matter how clean it is. We will tell you which one it is before we start, same as everything else on the price.

When it is not really about the junk

Most of the calls where this matters are not decluttering. It is a parent's house after a funeral. It is a downsize into one bedroom. It is a move nobody wanted. The stuff is fine and the person just cannot keep it, and watching it go into a truck feels like throwing away the life that went with it.

We cannot fix that. What we can do is not make it worse. We go at your pace, we do not rush you out of a room, and we do not make jokes about your mom's china. If you want to know where the good stuff ended up, ask and we will text you a photo from the drop-off.

Questions about donating and disposal

Can you guarantee my stuff gets donated?

No, and anybody who promises that is guessing. Thrift stores turn things down for stains, tears, missing parts, or because they are full that week. What we promise is that we look first and we try. If nobody will take it, it goes to disposal like the rest.

Can you pick up just the donation and leave the rest?

Yes. Donation runs are a real job we do. Same quote process, and it is usually on the cheap end because the truck is not going to the landfill.

Do I get a receipt for taxes?

If the drop-off writes one, we get it to you. A lot of the smaller places do not. Tell us up front that you want one and we will make a point of asking.

Does sorting make the job take longer?

A little, on our end. It does not raise your price, and if the good pile is worth something it lowers it.

What if I would rather sell it myself?

Then sell it. Marketplace and the estate sale companies will get you more than we will. Call us for whatever is left over when you are done.
